Respiratory dysfunction is common in children with acyanotic congenital heart defects ACHD with pulmonary hyperflow; however, little is known about the pulmonary structure of those patients. The objective of this study was to quantify the volumes of air and tissue, as well as the distribution of pulmonary aeration in this population.. After approval by the Ethics Committee of the institution and signing of an informed consent, seven children with ACHD with pulmonary hyperflow underwent computed tomographies of the chest. All images included the left and right pulmonary contour, and pulmonary volumes and weight were calculated using volumetric data. Paired Student t test was used to compare left and right, and exponential regression was used for correlations..

Language: English Spanish. To evaluate the impact of manual vibrocompression and nasotracheal suctioning on heart hr and respiratory rr rates, peripheral oxygen saturation SpO 2 , pain and respiratory distress in infants in the postoperative period of a cardiac surgery. Randomized controlled trial, in which the assessments were performed by the same physiotherapist in two moments: before and after the procedure. The infants were randomly divided into two groups: Intervention IG , with manual chest vibrocompression, nasotracheal suctioning and resting; and Control CG , with 30 minutes of rest. The manual vibrocompression and the nasotracheal suctioning applied to infants in postoperative of cardiac surgery did not altered SpO 2 and rr, and did not trigger pain and respiratory distress.
