Review "A wild, wolfy ride that will have you howling for more! Full Blooded left me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover. Besides delivering terrific action sequences, Carlson is doing an exceptional job of exploring and unveiling the hidden depths of her characters. Series fans should enjoy Carlson's fresh take on lycanthropy.

First of all, I have to say that Jessica McClain is one of the best characters ever created.
She is strong, smart and has powers like no other. I devoured the books, I literally could not stop! After I read Blooded, the prequel, I was even more eager to continue! And again, we can disregard the cliffhanger from the previous book because again the story continues, exactly where it left off. I am not giving any spoilers but there is some heavily anticipated romance and some unlikely alliances. And I am starting to like Ray a lot. He seems to me almost like a male version of Jessica, only more hotheaded.
He is equally brave and fearless and never gives up. And there is Naomi, so sweet, loyal and ruthless when necessary. It feels like Jessica is spontaneously building her own pack of all kinds of supernatural creatures. What I like most about this series so far, apart from Jessica of course, is the continuity. The story continues seamlessly from one book to the next, even the prequel. It almost feels like the prequel is the introduction and the rest of the books are the chapters in the story.
After finishing the third book and the novella, I won't even pretend that you can read just one. You will get hooked, I promise. It is the sheer power of will that I am not reading the next now.
I did get the last two books as soon as I finished this one, just like I got the second and third book and the novella, way before I finished the first book. I can't wait to see what happens next, but I am also dreading the end. I don't want to say goodbye to Jessica. Series reading order is: Blooded Jessica McClain, 0.
Marcy has been taken by sorcerers and Tally, her aunt, is ready to do anything to ensure Marcy's safety. They soon have an even bigger problem on their hands when more sorcerers arrive and try to blow them all up. They retreat to the witchs' stronghold and soon learn the Marcy is ok, James has found her, but Jessica can't stay with the witches for long because the sorcerers are still on her trail.
Rourke and Jessica retreat to his cabin, but there is not much down time before Jessica is sent on another path, she has to go to the Vamps in New Orleans early. Like the other books, Cold Blooded starts off running right from the first page, from the first word. Even the end of the book sets things up for the next book Red Blooded. I really liked in this book that Rourke got his page time finally.
His character didn't appear until late in Full Blooded and in Hot Blooded that book was almost entirely dedicated to getting him back from Selene. We learn a lot more about his past, but regardless, much remains a mystery about him, I look forward to finding out more.
What really stood out for me in this book were the secondary players. The world Amanda Carlson has created is changing in a big way starting with Jessica's transformation into the first female werewolf. It's very interesting to see the new developments between the different sects of supernaturals. I find myself hoping Amanda Carlson will branch off and give us stories from other characters' perspectives. There's a lot going on in the background that may not have anything directly to do with Jessica and I would like to read about it.
The pace of the book is really fast, Jessica moves from one obstical to the next. One of the only complaints I can make is the fact that Jessica seems pretty much indestructible.
She's just been through her transformation, yet she's alreay exhibiting great power and defeating powerful creatures. Other supernaturals defer to her judgement, yet she hasn't even been alive as long as some.
She's in her twenties while others have been alive for hundreds of years. There's clearly things about the supernatural world that she doesn't know about yet or fully understand.
I would like to see more of a give and take with her, but it pretty much seems as though she calls all the shots. Of course, this book ends on another cliffhanger for the readers. When this series is all said and done it should read like one very long story the way they all string together. But it's a story that I am happy to read. So I waited until days ago to order and read this book.
I'm not sure what the delay was because I have read the previous books in this series. I knew enough in all that time to remember characters yet the first portion of this book covers all the bases on who is who and what is happening. So if you haven't read the other stories, you do get caught up. More action on the run and very little conclusions in the plot.
Jessica still doesn't know who she is in the giant scheme of things, nothing new about the prophecy, she's so hit and miss and all her decisions are made in seconds or else.
What bothers me the most is everyone around her lets her step up and lead with very little argument. Especially with her mate. She walks over him time and time again, he wants to protect and fight along side her, but she's off jumping on to her next two second decision and leaving him in the dust. He is centuries old and very powerful. Yet she treats his input like dirt. They barely talk things out time and time again and she's jumping ahead two steps and doing it her way no matter what.
To me that isn't a strong character. That's a brat that doesn't value him as her other half. No, the character development could have been so much more. There's about six set characters in this book and there's so much emphasis on Jessica that the others come across as under developed in comparison. The story could have been so much more. And of all things, it ends in a cliff hanger. I hate cliff hangers, they give no purpose in ending a story and even though the next in the series is out, I am not invested enough to continue.
