DIATONIC MAJOR MINOR SCALES SEGOVIA PDF

Segovia is without a doubt one of the greatest guitarists to have ever touched the instrument, and has a whole host of big names that have called him their teacher. He was very strict with his students they had to practice just scales and exercises for at least 2 hours every day, let alone the other stuff! Rather than keeping a scale in a nice and easy position which obviously you should still work on he challenges you to really know your fretboard. This can take years of work. Again, the goal here is to make that shift on the 3rd string nice and smooth.

Getting pretty tough, huh? Well, I'll leave you with this guy there are a lot more in the book which you can check out from Amazon here.

This one takes some time, but is definitely worth the effort. These are just the first three! I can't tell you how much I feel like I've improved my playing with these scales though.

Diatonic Major and Minor Scales

First and foremost, my review of this classic book is coming from the perspective of a primarily a jazz guitarist coming from a classical guitar background. Please do read the review within that context! For classical guitarists, you may see the book from different perspectives. A few years ago, I saw an Adam Rogers video mentioning this same book and how it helped his technique. Knowing that Adam was classically trained and is also a world class jazz guitarist made me want to reexamine this book again. In my opinion, the fingerings in this book are useful for developing: 1 Fluid scale technique 2 Position changes 3 Balanced tone production. From the angle of a jazz guitarist, this book was more a useful technique building resource than for developing strong fretboard visualisation skills for melodic single note improvisation.
