It's Christian because it explores the relationship between the Christianity and secular society, and at least how I read it it puts secular society in the wrong.
I don't see the kind of reviews I'd expect about MitC, and it makes me doubt my own interpretation a little bit. But if I were staging this play, the first half would be very, very formal - as you would expect with a frigging Greek-style chorus on stage!
But when the knights attack, I would have a complete change of pace. Suddenly the audience is watching the shower scene from Psycho. I want to send them home with nightmares. When Becket is dead, there should be nothing that the knights could say to reconcile the audience to what they've done. And then comes the brilliance, the sting in the tail. The knights, politely taking turns, come to the front and, speaking in modern idioms, they DO try to justify themselves!
