Abstract This paper shows that using a recent introduced generic paralleling structure for commutation cells one can get multiple levels of total current for dc-dc converters.
This opens a new research field in power electronics area, which the paper names current multilevel converters. This new approach has been applied to a level buck converter along with theoretical, simulated and experimental results. The application of the new concept is extended to the remainder of the dc-dc converters following a brief discussion of particularities. As can be attained for the voltage multilevel converters the new current multilevel dc-dc converters can be adapted to produce small harmonics content and total current sharing among the employed communication cells.
